Collaboration in Theater: A New Era for Productions
Stage West Theatre and the Dallas Theater Center have embarked on a three-year partnership, showcasing acclaimed productions like Fat Ham and Primary Trust. Fat Ham, which recently concluded its run in Fort Worth, is now set to be performed at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. This innovative adaptation by playwright James Ijames reimagines Hamlet in a contemporary setting, shifting the narrative to a Black backyard barbecue in the American South, where themes of family and revenge unfold without the traditional tragic ending.
The partnership aims to enhance audience reach and provide creative opportunities for artists, particularly as theater attendance has not fully rebounded post-pandemic. Upcoming productions include Where We Stand, an interactive one-woman show featuring Liz Mikel, which will premiere at Stage West before moving to Bryant Hall. This collaboration not only consolidates resources but also enriches the cultural landscape of the region.
